The Closer, the Better: direct injection of ChemGemtm, a Chemo-loaded hydrogel in preclinical Pancreatic Cancer models demonstrates superior results over Standard-of-Care.

In our long-standing collaboration with Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) our injectable drug depot platform ChemoGell™ was combined with the standard-of-care drug Gemcitabine - ChemGem™ - and the product was injected directly into tumors in two standard mouse models for Pancreatic Cancer (PDAC).


Our direct and localized injection into chemo-resistant tumors in KPC-3 mice demonstrated superior performance on reducing tumors mass, slowing down tumor progression, and initiating immune response at the local tumor environment. Normal systemic delivery dosing an equal amount of gemcitabine in these mice showed no effect at all. Direct injection of ChemGemTM into the tumors resulted in prolonged survival of the mice and signs of immune activation in these Chemo-resistant mouse tumors.


Better still, in one advanced PDX-model with human-derived PDAC tumors, it resulted in 100% survival and no adverse side-effects to the mice.

The article also demonstrates the injectability of ChemoGellTMand ChemGemTM within standard clinical practise in human patients.


Unpublished data by OncoLize also indicate safety and tolerability in standard rat skin toxicity models.


These results, together with earlier work using other well-known chemo drugs in lung-tumor models indicate a clear potential for a novel direct & targeted treatment for difficult-to-treat Pancreatic Cancer and various other solid tumor diseases.
